Street Photography
BC - Victoria , People, Everyday Sublime, Japanese Garden, Movies
I am new to street photography, having spent more than fifty years taking photographs without any people in the image.
Most of my photography was landscape or architecture.
I have always had mixed feelings about street photography, since much of it seems to be happy accident.
But I have come to appreciate its ability to tell a story, and capture poignant moments.
I wonder if it is an intrusionā¦
Or just part of our life together on the street.
Whether the cityscape influences how we interact within its streets and alleys.
And how the mood of the momentā¦
Impacts our actions and expressions.
Sometimes it seems life parallels our experienceā¦
And at other times we find solace in the midst of the chaos.
Everyday Sublime - 2
Everyday Sublime is a moment during the day when something stands out against everything around it. That can be as simple as a slant of light or shadow, something out of place, an expression, a path, a reflection, an unusual perspective, an unexpected surprise, or a familiar place seen differently. It is anything that causes me to pause and notice that my moment. It is a single point of presence. As I winter here in Victoria my wanderings around offer moments throughout the day that I try to capture. Previous Everyday Sublime post here.
Japanese Garden
Discovered a Japanese garden five minutes away. Built before WWII, then destroyed during the period of the concentration camps. Restored afterwards to less than its previous glory.
It is both an embarrassment to our racial biases and a quiet place to contemplate better times now and in the future.
The Japanese Peace Park movement is a beautiful contribution to any community. I try to visit all that I come across in my travels.
What I am Reading and Watchingā¦
Nosferatu - a modern remake of the 1979 classic.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Sage - A prequel too Mad Max: Fury Road
One Ranger - modern-day Texas Ranger

How interesting you are moving to include people. Fred Herzog used characters to tell his picture stories as well.
More lovely photographs sir. You can make a day without blue sky look beautiful.
