Just Relaxing
ON - Emerald Lake
No photo essay this week. The wildfires forced me to speed through the plains. So lots of long days driving.
Towing the Airstream was surprisingly easy, I have to avoid forgetting it’s back there. I am constantly monitoring where it is in the lane and who is around me. As the weeks went by this became easier as I became comfortable with the larger foot print. I am less concerned about accessing gas stations because the trailer is quite manoeuvrable is tight areas.
But all this leaves me exhausted after a long drive. So I have stopped in Southern Ontario for a two week break. I have enjoyed many conversations with friends, new and old, along the way.
I am now stopped for a couple of weeks and sleeping in late, reading and catching up on a few movies. Taking a long walk in the morning and evening. Napping in the afternoon. Playing Go (also called weichi or baduk) everyday and savouring some unusual new summer fruits from around the world. Had my first yellow watermelon this morning. A tasty treat.
I miss the big landscapes of the West and look forward to returning to the SW this coming Autumn and Winter. I have a number of unusual Harvest Hosts lined up as I head toward Nova Scotia. I will spend the first two weeks of August there, and look forward to walking the streets of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg again and reconnecting with dear friends. Then I will catch the Digby Ferry to head South for a few Rallies in the NE, before heading to the SW.
Thanks for sharing in my journey. Be well. Big hug.
What I am Reading and Watching
Watts, Peter (2006) Blindsight (Firefall series) - Who do you send to meet them when they come. Reread before reading sequel.
Watts, Peter (2014) Echopraxia (Firefall series) - Second book series.
Cobb, William (2021) Buddhist Philosophy and the Game of Go - rereading this for the fourth time. The best description of Buddhist thought and a refreshingly non-marshal view of Go.
Mr. Robot - unique character and story.
Accountant 2 - visceral thriller.
The Quiet American 1958 - adaption of Graham Greene novel.
Longlegs - disturbingly dark.
Brutalist - 2024 - great drama well acted and moving.
House of Spirits - adaptation of Isabel Allende’s novel staring Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, and Jeremy Irons based on her family’s experience during the Chilean revolution.
Copycat - rewatched an old classic
Girl with the Dragon Tatoo series
The 355 - modern adaptation of a WWII unknown spy heroine.

I remember watching Copycat many years ago and recall stopping it at closing curtains and locking doors. Well done and Sigourney always pleases.
It's good to stop and relax/reflect every now and then. I know it's self inflicted but, travelling can be very tiring and quite stressful at times...so, enjoy your break. Since my wife and I retired, we have been so busy helping out with all of our free ! time that we have to plan some time for us !! We're actually creating a folder and map specifically for us !! Weird huh ?
