Bruce Peninsula National Park
Though the sky was a dull grey from the overcast smoke of distant wildfires and the flat light deaden all the colour from the landscape, the walk though the woods did not prepare you for the beauty of the rock cliffs Along Lake Huron.
The water was a clear as glass and no one dared to enter the cold stillness.
A thousand years of storms carved the cliffs into a grotto.
You wander at your own risk along the rocky edge.
The vegetation survives by finding a crack just wide enough to support life.
Miles of beach are rock strewn and nearly impossible to walk with careful placement of every step.
Black Horse Motor Inn
I met Natalie and Adam in Tofino two years ago when we were both traveling in vans. They invited my to visit on my next time across Canada,, but I was forced to head south the next year to avoid a snow storm and they hosted me for a week this year.
They bought this lovely five-cottage Motor Inn and have created an oasis a block off Sauble Beach. With a pool, sauna, and place to gather with friends, this is a great place to stay.
I offered a hand to carry a few stone bricks along side Adam, as Bob made short work of creating a beautiful new wall on the front of the shop. Bob’s son, Joey mixed mortar and kept us all busy trying to keep up with him.
Black Horse Cycle
Adam King is a renown building of vintage splinter forks and restores old Harley’s and Indian’s. His father started Black Horse Cycle 50 years ago and Adam has continued the business the last 25-years. He holds many racing records on ice, snow, dirt, and asphalt.
Adam loves the Knucklehead Harleys and several are in the shop at various stages of restoration.
The shop is like a vintage museum with photos and memorabilia from times past.
The short trailer below features Adam with his friends doing what he loves best.
History fills the shop.
I love watching a master do what they love and Adam loves creating new things out of old parts. And when the part no longer exists, he mills it from scratch.
The benches are filled with frames, motors, and parts being cleaned and restored.
Another one coming together one piece at a time.
There is a beauty in a fine piece of machinery brought back to life.
Adam’s experiences far exceed his years. And behind his grizzled beard is one of the kindest men I have ever met.
